Happy New Year and January events

Wednesday  13 January 6.30-8pm, O’Neill’s pub, Great George St – help us kick off the new year with some feisty plans to defend the NHS !

Supporting NHS workers and making the links between attacks on staff and the wholesale dismantling of the NHS will be a priority.

The junior doctors are rightly not satisfied with their negotiations  and are planning further action, starting with 24 hours of emergency only cover on 12th January,  continuing with similar action from 0800 26th January to 0800 28th Jan and a full day  withdrawal of labour on Wednesday 10th February between 8am and 5pm if there is still no progress with talks.

Student nurses  have organised a protest in London this Saturday 9th Feb against the withdrawal of nursing bursaries and there will be some events in the regions, including in Middlesbrough, although we haven’t yet heard of anything being organised in Yorkshire.

We are also committed to organising a demonstration  in Leeds for the NHS onSaturday April 16th   which will be a few weeks after  the 4th anniversary of the passing of the extremely unhealthy “Health and Social Care Act”.

We have a regional network meeting coming up on Friday 22nd  2-4pm in Leeds and KONP has been involved in organising a national “Health Campaigns  Together” Conference in London on Saturday January 30th . To book a free place, go to  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/defending-our-nhs-tickets-19746374939.

We will also be fixing  some monthly practice sessions for our Defend the NHS choir.

Add to the above our regular catch up with national and local NHS news and we have a pretty full agenda, so do join us on 13th Jan.!

We have been meeting on the first  and third Wed of the month for a while  but this clashes with some NHS trade union meetings so we are going to try the second and fourth  Wednesdays in the New Year.

Very best wishes for the New Year
