Statement from a member of Leeds KONP who works for LTHT:
Hospitals have changed much since Savile stalked the wards of Leeds wearing his cloak of celebrity to evade scrutiny.
Many important lessons have already been learned and procedures implemented with the aim of protecting vulnerable patients and members of staff.
Freedom for employees to speak out about concerns needs to be nurtured.
This shameful history should not be used to denigrate the NHS, a current preoccupation of government officials attempting to portray the service as incompetent and uncaring in their propaganda war on behalf of privatisation.
