February & March

Protestors outside the House of Lords on the 9th Feb

On the 15th February we held a talk in Leeds Metropolitan University “What is happening to our NHS”. Over a hundred people attended and several people asked how they could stop the bill.

1)Join our meeting every Thursday 7.15pm at the George Pub, Great George Street, LS1 3BB (behind the LGI, not far from millenium square). Or support Leeds Hospital Alert.

2)Lobby a Lord or your local MP

3)Join the regional demonstration against the cuts and privatisation on Saturday 25th February in Leeds. The Tories are holding their local government conference in Leeds at the Queens Hotel, next to Leeds station. Assemble at Woodhouse Moor (next to Leeds Uni.) at 10.30 and march to a rally at 12.30 City Square. The City square is opposite the station and queens hotel. Here is the facebook event.

4)Join 2-5 people from our group attending the national rally against the bill in Westminster Central Hall from 6-8pm.

5)Protest at the Libdem conference and encourage more than just 4 MPs to vote against the bill. We have yet to arrange the details but keep in touch if you are interested. Here is the facebook event  The protest is on the 10th March

The TUC is also planning the following event:

10th March Assemble 11-11.30, Wesley Square, Newcastle Quayside
March – either over the Swing Bridge or the Millennium Bridge (may be closed due to repairs!)
Rally – 12.30, Baltic Square, Gateshead

6)Possible theatrical protest in Leeds on the Saturday 17th March. tba.

7)Sign the e-petition http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/22670

The bill is now crawling through the Lords and the NHS bill is now hitting the press every week. The opposition is growing day by day http://services.parliament.uk/bills/2010-11/healthandsocialcare.html
